They want your parent's info to determine how much THEY (FAFSA/gov't) feels your parents would/shouls contribute to your educational expenses. Most likely, if you when you are 24 you will get more financial aid then right now. Unless your parents are low income. This is because there are so many people out there that do need the financial aid that they want to help those who are less able to afford it. It is fair though because there are under 23 year olds that are parents themselves who don't need to list thier parent's income, or marrried and under 23-or if they were in the military they also don't need to list parents income. Good luck and it is a good thing-college- you sound like you have a good head on your shoulders.

You are considered a depend ant until you are 24. unless you are married, have children, your parents are diseased. so you will need your parents information on the forms as well, unless you just wait a year and fill it out at the age of 24 instead.
