I decided to make my girlfriend dinner tonight, and she says she's in the mood for crabsticks. The kind you find in the frozen section of your supermarket. I'm just trying to figure out what else to make that goes along with that. It has to be seafood themed because she has given up meat (beef, pork, and chicken) because of lent. Any suggestions?

My suggestion would be a fresh homemade coleslaw and spicy baked potato wedges, a mixed fruit cup is a nice touch too

You've got the main course covered (the crab). You wouldn't neccesarily need seafood in every course of the meal, would you?

Shrimp cocktail is a good idea. They sell the little (refigerated) glass jars of it---it looks like a small jelly jar. It's a few very small shrimp, floating around in red cocktail sauce. You can just buy raw shrimp--use something larger, like 21-26--and steam them, leaving the tail portion of the shells on. You can buy some prepared cocktail sauce (or make your own), and put it into shallow bowls. Then "drape" the cooked shrimp over the edges of the bowl. It makes a very elegant presentation.

As for the rest of the meal...how about simple baked potatoes...or you could boil some tiny red potatoes, and serve them with a garlic and olive oil sauce. And maybe a tossed green salad. It's all still vegetarian!

perhaps a nice shrimp cocktail, or a mixed seafood salad, with some crusty bread and rosemary steamed new potatoes? How nice of you to cook for her.
