There is this police officer in my town who advised a person to do something illegal against me. I have the proof of what the officer said and did.
I can't complain to the sheriff's office because they're taking the cop's side (obviously).
There is no "internal affairs" that I know of and the police wouldn't tell me where/how to go about filling a complaint anyway.

The crime commited is a serious one (stalking). The police had no discression. By law they were forced to arrest this person. They refused. (I found out later that the police were the ones who told this person to do what they did).

So... what do I do? I don't want to let this go.

this must be a very small police department. someone in this department has the legal responsibility to investigate misconduct by its officers. try getting in touch with a upper level command officer. (major, chief deputy sheriff) if this fails and you have proof of criminal misconduct, go to the district attorneys office and file a complaint. in some cases the F.B.I. will become involved in issues involving police misconduct/cover-ups. if you don't feel comfortable with doing any of the above, then try contacting a council member. i hope this helps. good luck.

Every police agency has some method of handling citizen complaints. If you have complained to the sheriff's office and you don't feel it was handled properly, try a different angle. Do you have a mayor's office, county council or some other entity to take you complaint to? That should be your next step.

There is a line between stalking, and watching someone for reason, So alot can depend on why they were following you as to if it was legal or not legal.

But you make your complaint to the dept where the officer works.

Gather up your proof and go to the State Police and/or the FBI. Tell them you want to report police corruption and you need help. I would suggest, in order to protect yourself, that you get some trusted friends, a newspaper reporter, a good lawyer and give them all copies of your proof to be used in case of your death or incarceration. If you have pictures or tape-recordings, they will be particularly damning.
