I would ask him for the technical name of the disease so that you can educate yourself about it. Just say hey I looked up "lockjaw" and all I find is "tetanus". Can you give me the technical name so I can learn more about it and how to treat it? If he won't give you the name and backsteps on it I'd go see another doctor and take records from this doctor with you so that you can figure out WTH is going on. It IS your body afterall.

I'm going to help you understand Lockjaw which is caused by Tetanus toxoid. How long have you had this? I am posting a .gov site that is a legitimate site that will tell you more about your condition. See the link below.

WHAT IS TETANUS?
• Tetanus is a serious disease that is caused by bacteria found in dust, soil, and manure
• Tetanus enters the body through many kinds of wounds—from a pinprick to a deep wound
• The bacteria live all over the world
• Tetanus is commonly called “lockjaw” since it can cause stiffness in the jaw muscles

HOW IS TETANUS TREATED?
• Treatment for tetanus may include medications, surgery, and bed rest
• Even if a person recovers from tetanus, a tetanus shot is needed to ensure he or she doesn’t get it again

Lockjaw is more serious than your doctor has let on. You need to contact another doctor or your local health department. You will need to get more information and have another tetanus shot too!

You must be confused. Lockjaw is an old slang term for tetanus. It sounds more like you have TMJ disorder. Look it up under the WebMD section on dentistry/dental disorders.

Your doctor is incorrect when he told you there was "no cure". TMJ problems are treated successfully by dentists. See your dentist immediately. Anti-inflammatory medications (Motrin), muscle relaxant medications (Diazepam), and intraoral splint therapy are highly effective, especially if this is a "new" condition for you. GO....NOW!

Maybe he means temporal mandibular joint stiffness? This is the 'hinge' joint that makes up your jaw, and can cause the symptoms you describe. TMJ problems can sometimes be resolved with surgery or dental consultations.
I would call your doctor and ask him to clarify the diagnosis. Tetanus is a fatal disease, and I would hope that he would have provided you with more specific information than calling what you have 'lockjaw'.
