My mother was like that. Her thought was that they would find cancer. (She'd be 86 if she were still alive) and that generation thinks that is a fate WORSE than death and would just rather not know. She never had cancer, but died of heart disease that could have been treated if she had only gone to the doctors. But she refused. I'm sorry about your father. But I know exactly how you feel. Frustrated and scared. Unless he is mentally incompetent (dementia, Alzheimer's) there is nothing you can do to make him go.

try to persuade him in a nice and convincing way that he need to see a doctor because you care for him. Sometimes old people becomes grumpy most of the time. Try to ask him during his cooler days or moment.

Jackie, It's your Dad's choice if he doesn't want to go to a doctor. My Dad's 82 and has his check-ups faithfully - that's his choice! I don't think there's anything you can do but encourage him to have a checkup...

Take him there. Tell him that you don't want to be responsible for his death. Some Drs. still make house calls, also.

get the doctor to come out to him, if they say no tell them you are going to sue that will spur them ondon't take no for an answer.
