The moon is most religions is usually the symbol of a female goddess. The stars represent other gods as well. I don't know what it means in Islam though.

Actually, those are also associated with the Virgin of Guadelupe. But then, I've been suspicious of Marian visitations ever since I heard that she lied about how long she would be appearing. People who lie are NOT attached to God, but to that other guy. As far as I'm concerned, anyone who displays objects of Pagan worship like that are probably working for that old dragon, the 'angel of light', Shaitan himself.

It predates Islam by a few thousand years. They were symbols of pagan religions.

Historically, it was a religious symbol from the earliest times. It has been used alone or together with a star or sun symbol on war standards, ancient seals, coins and monuments.
