I can tell you about my mom....
born in a grain silo in Idaho during the depression (1925ish) because her parents were homeless, her father was killed in a car-train accident when she was five... worked at the munitions factories in california during WWII... saved her money, went to college, got her degree... worked hard some more, invested her money wisely... was bound and determined to leave her children an inheritance.. lived her life with determination and good morals...and she succeeded.
No single event, other than her choices and determination, made this happen.

I heard about a guy who won a ton of money from johnson and johnson- they had a contest to see who could come up with the best idea to sell more baby powder and people were giving them all kinds of ideas like- lower the price or make it in fun colors or make it glow in the dark and someone wrote in and said simply- make the holes bigger- the bigger the holes the more you use everytime and nobody will even realize they're buying more

well i grew up poor, had just enough to eat to keep from starving, had just enough heat to keep from freezing.....you get the idea...there was always "just enough" but it was never enough. there wasn't a single event that changed anything...my mom worked three jobs to keep her kids fed and warm, and pretty soon the hard work paid off and she starting making money. well growing up poor i always said i wouldn't end up that way again, so since my first job at 13 I've been saving money..then into stocks and things like that. And now at 30 i have a very nice nest egg...can afford to put three kids through college and can retire very early if i wanted to.

Unfortunately I don't have any stories like that. Everyone I know busted their rears and worked hard for everything they have. Some of them grew up poor and the moved themselves to upper middle class as adults. But they sacrificed and worked for it.
