I think some sort of dress code is good. There is plenty of room to allow for freedom of expression, without allowing students to be sloppy, offensive, or (ah hem) distracting.

I worked at a school that had a dress code and it was so hard to enforce. It came to a point that some students knew how to manipulate the code.If a student wanted a day off or didnt feel motivated that day ,all they would do was to wear something out of code and that landed them a day in 'in school suspension'.Another thing students would do is wear something over their jeans then around lunchtime take them off, then you would notice alot of students wearing jeans and risking suspension. It came to the point where I think the Teachers became more focused on the dresscode than academics. So I think a dress code could be a good thing if there are actual uniforms, trusting the students to wear their own kaki's and button down shirts maybe to much, but when everyone does it it makes the school seem more organized. So im in favor of the dresscode.

i think it can be a pain in the *** but is fair. no teacher wants to see students hanging out all over the place.
in my school we have a much stricter dress code cos its private school, which sort of sucks...but the teachers have to dress nice everyday. they only get to wear jeans on friday...now thats unfair lol

School should be about studying, what everyone chooses to wear it's their own business. Besides studying I think the emphasis should be put on individuality, not on conformism.
