From a local farmer. A) he's making money from it; and B) chances are what he's selling has been vine ripened and is more fresh than the stuff you buy at the store that's been sitting on a truck for the last week, being shipped from California or Argentina or wherever it is our produce comes from.

If you are able to, I suggest a local farmer. Many sell very reasonable packages or have drop-ins.

By purchasing locally, you are supporting the family farm - that is at risk of extinction - and you are reducing your food miles. It seems like a small thing, but the food we eat creates a big footprint when it is being trucked for 1000's of kilometres to end up on your plate.

Even if you can not buy from a local farmer, look at where your produce is coming from. If you have a choice between tomatoes from 600 km away or Mexico, you should really think about the 20 cents per kilo you might think you are saving by buying the tomatoes that travelled thousands of kms.

It depends on what you're buying. If I wanted fresh veggies or fruit, I'd go with the farmer. But if I wanted a T-Bone steak I'd go to the store.

Depends on the farmer, depends on the store. Do your research for freshness, organics, and cost.

depends on the farmer some are dirty nasty people but others are the cleanest nicest people you'd ever meet, but with all the illegal aleins picking our produce anymore and all the e-coli going around I grow my own when possible.
