Atheist dictatorships often want religion gone because they see it as a useless threat and something that slows down and limits science. I personally disagree and think that it is good for a person to believe in a religion because it gives them some basic morals, ethics and good "spiritual" support through an organized community. However, I do not want any particular set of beliefs forced upon people.

Speaking as a Christian, I can see that Atheists would not want religion gone. I suspect that they just want to be allowed to believe or not believe what they want, just like Christians wish. That shouldn't be so hard, ...... should it?
Where did you ever get the idea that Atheists wanted to eliminate religions? I've never gotten that feeling from any of the hundreds I've talked with.

I am an atheist but I support freedom of religion. Of course I hope that people stop following illusions, but everyone has to find his or her own way to happiness on his/her own. What makes you think that atheists would try to suppress religion? Strange idea. In my country (Germany) more than a third of the population is atheist, but no one would contemplate suppressing religion.

Education will end religion.
The facts disproving it are already here. There's just a lot of people in this world that don't know the facts.
It doesn't require force. It requires education. And that is why the religious right is scared to death of public education these days, and keeps trying to squeeze its way into it.

Well if theists stopped indoctrinating their children from birth, we wouldn't have to do anything.
Religious indoctrination is, without a doubt, the biggest threat to freedom of religion in history. The vast majority of theists follow their parents religion, which wouldn't happen if they had all made objective decisions.

I don't necessarily want to see religion gone. I just want to see it out of our government, our laws, and our schools. (Science classrooms in particular.) I want to see the laws that say you can't serve in public office unless you acknowledge the existence of a deity to be thrown out. I want to see the little pushy messages like "In God We Trust" to be taken off of the property of a government that proclaims to defend free thought. I want people to be able to CHOOSE whether or not they want to say "Under God" when they recite the Pledge of Allegiance. We just want to be treated with the same respect with which Christians are treated in this country.

I don't want to see religion completely gone. I already have a fully developed plan for all beliefs to live amiably.

Education.
And I don't want to see religion gone. It's too important to too many people.
I want to see the intolerance many on ALL sides have for all the other sides end.
