It's not stubborn-ness or open minded-ness. It is faith in something that cannot be seen. Everyone is human. Some people can believe in unseen things some cannot. God created us all. He is aware of this. This is why God is not going to just end the earth in one big way. First there is the Rapture of the believers. The non-believers will then be provided the proof of His existance. From there, they have a chance to make an informed decision before the second coming of Christ to earth to set up his reign. After they see the proof and decide He still doesn't exist or is powerful, then maybe they can be labeled as stubborn.

I can be the most stubborn person ever, if I set my mind to it. This was true when I was a Christian, and now as an atheist.
I'm open-minded to a degree, always have been. Just the ways of being open-minded have changed.
And I don't think that either started as spiritual or religious words. Just words.

"Stubborn" is the antithesis of "open mindedness", just as hate is the antithesis of love. "Stubborn open mindedness" is a contradictory term---it contradicts itself within itself. You can be either stubborn or you can be open minded, but you cannot be the same with regard to the same subject. People who put the two together confused people who had very poor English teachers, or they did not advance far enough in their education (beyond the third grade) to learn any better English, or they are just plain stupid (not retarded or mentally handicapped, but stupid).
I realize that this is a little departure from your question, but it does travel along the path of what you are talking about. Atheist want Christians to be stubbornly open minded about atheism so that we forget about the merits of Christianity over atheism. Christians are considered stubborn, but atheists are open minded. Yes, I am unmovable in my stance concerning the gospel of Jesus Christ (I am an ordained minister), and I believe that being open minded is a trap for the devil to use to snare people who consider themselves to be intellectuals. An open minded person usually any and all garbage into their mind and ultimately does not know what to believe.

I wouldn't give the answer that stubborn=theism because that's ridiculous. Open-minded and stubborn are not the same thing.

Well I became an atheist about ten. I didn't even know the word for it, and didn't know anyone else who was one. But knew that was what I was. That is thinking for yourself and being open minded.
Believing exactly what you were taught by your parents is not generally being open minded. You are aware that most of us made a conscious choice to not be religious? We didn't just follow along and take the easy path.

I always have been open minded- I didn't just decide one day to stop being a christian- I did my homework and I looked at other religions and I made an educated choice

Stubborn has positive connotations for me. It means standing up for what you believe.
To me, open minded is about accepting and tolerance. Christians are not known for their tolerance, are they? Open minded is accepting that there is not only one right way to see things.
I admit it, I am intolerant of intolerance.
