Wow, how refreshing to hear a 16 yr old girl asking about how to gain rather than lose weight. Congratulations on being health conscious. You are on your way to a healthy life. As for the gaining weight, remember that what we see in the mirror and what we think are sometimes two different things. Have you checked other things aside from your weight? BMI, (body mass index), are you feeling down, weak, or is it just that you'd like to see a little more meat on your bones? You can determine what type of activity you're doing. Remember if you are an athlete and you aren't supplying your body with sufficient energy, you will lose muscle mass as well as fat and that can be dangerous and put you at a health risk. That's what gives that skinny, bony look. Eating is not bad as long as you are using your energy. Also, if you are sick and may not know it, and losing weight for no reason, you may want to check with your pediatrician. However, if you eat healthy carbs and more protein, plus increase resistance exercise, you may start to fill out. Don't eat crappy white breads or desserts, i.e. junk food like doughnuts, cookies. That's garbage fuel. Think brown and green and colorful when choosing your food. That will give you good nutrition and with some condiments, it tastes great. Hope this helped. Also, go give your school nurse a visit. She or He can help you find a weight that's suitable for a girl your height and type. Good luck.

I have asked this question many times as I consider myself to be small for my height (I am 5' 3'' and weigh just slightly over 100lbs) I have been told by the doctor that I have a high metabolic rate so as soon as I eat it gets burned up pretty fast so 3 square meals a day doesn't really work for me. A dietician advised me to 'split the meal times' that is eat 6 meals a day. (Naturally the intake amounts would be smaller) and make sure they are high in protein and fibre. Meal supplements like ensure and nutrament can work as 1 or 2 of your '6 meals' for the day.

it's so funny to hear this, when most folks are WANTING to be thinner...
the over-simple answer is to take in more than you burn.
no matter what it is, when you eat it, you either have to burn it, poop it, or carry it around.
so, now's the question...would you rather carry something useless like Twinkies, or something irresistable like healthy muscle mass and nice skin?
that should help you make the right choices about what to eat. you can make a lot prettier stuff with good food than you can by eating trash!
also, recognize that your body type--thanks to your ancestors--has already been decided for you, but what you do with that, and how you feel about yourself is your own choice.
i couldn't gain when i was 16 either, and i ate like a horse. now that i've turned 50, i can't seem to lose, and i eat like a mouse...so there you go!

I agree with "john" to a point. White bread isn't good for you so if you are going to eat sandwiches etc. try and use a whole grain, whole wheat breat or rye type bread. Get most of your calories from protein so eat more meat, eggs, cheese. Protein drinks made like smoothies are really good for you....make them with yogurt, frozen or fresh fruit. Protein bars for snacks mid day are also a good idea. Eat trail mix with lots of different nuts, raisins, other dried food for snacks as well.

Dude pay attention! eating all of that undesirable nutrition may finally end up in wellbeing problems like diabetes and severe ldl cholesterol. i think of which you will stay skinny and decrease down on the fat and goodies, and likewise initiate eating extra healthful meals like vegetables and workout extra. you will no longer be apologetic approximately it. that's extra appropriate to have a extra appropriate wellbeing.
