There is a species of jasmine commonly called sampaguitas in the Philippines, but not all jasmine flowers are sampaguitas. There are species of jasmines much smaller in size than sampaguita, but the odor is kinda the same. As with my experience. So jasmine is not the English name of sampaguita. Sampaguita is scientifically called, Jasminium sambae. In our botany lab specimens, jasmine sampaguita are also called "daisies".

Sampaguita is *a* species of jasmine.

All sampaguita is jasmine but not all jasmine is sampaguita.
