I always carry a rosary and lately I have seen pictures of people who have been wearing them around their necks. I did some online research and discovered that there are even catholic stores online which sell rosaries with clasps so they can be worn around the neck. From what I understand, as long as it is not blessed, it is okay. I would like to always have my rosary so easily available, and it would be an expression of faith on my part. What are your thoughts, as a Catholic seeing this would you think it was sacreligious or an okay thing to do?

It is not sacreligious. Why is carrying it around your neck different than putting it in your pocket? The rosary was not originally intended as jewelry but it does not mean it is no longer a rosary if put around your neck. Peace be with you

It depends on the situation. I was raised Catholic, and frequently wore my rosary around my neck on high holy days as a profession of faith. It is not okay, however, to wear a rosary as a symbol of gang alliance or for any other unholy intention(which I have known some people to do). As long as it is worn for the right reason, there is no problem with it.

The Rosary is not a piece of jewelry.
The Rosary is a tool that can be used by anyone in prayer.
The Rosary is rarely worn. Some religious sisters in habits wear them.
If you choose to wear a Rosary then remember to behave accordingly. Just like wearing a Cross or Crucifix, you are telling the world that you believe in and are trying to live the Gospel message.

I think it would have to be ok. People, i think, wear them around their necks because they feel so secure. The feel seure because they have the rosary near their hearts.
In any way you look at it, these people are not commiting sacrilege since they don't do anything to deface or disrespect it.
I mean, Isn't it a good thing to see that these people are still asking help from our Blessed Mother? Many people have turned their backs on her. It's just sad..

They are wrong. You do not wear the rosary like a necklace, it's not jewelry. The only time I've seen a rosary with a clasp is to put it up in the car easier, not for the neck.

Better still would be to wear the brown scapular of Carmel round your neck and under your clothes. Get one blessed by a priest. You dont have to get subsequent scapulars blessed once you bless the first one. The Brown scapular will save you from the fires of hell. Say the daily rosary. Nothing wrong to wear it as long as its not worn as jewellery.

You can - but if you are wearing it out of faith you wear it under your clothes.
It can be blessed. There is no sanction that says you cannot wear a blessed rosary.
It is meant ot be a reminder of God, and of prayer. That you always have it with you. You wear it under your clothes becuase 1. it is close to you and 2. you are not trying to show how holy or making a fashion statement.

yep when I went to school they gave out rosaries that you wore as necklaces. but that was when there was real NUNS back in the 70's.

Dulce and Gabbana sells really expensive rosaires....I make the nicer ' gift quality' rosaries, and my feeling is unless your last name sounds Hispanic, you shouldn't wear a rosary.
It isn't jewelry, it's a sacramental!
