I was brought up to open doors etc for women. Is this a dying practice? So many people are so rude these days.

Men should open doors and etc. for women, its consider an act of mannerisms and respect, but do women do the same for us?

I love and respect women, I'm not chauvinistic, but a realist. How many times do women do the same for us, ex. pay for dates, open doors, buy gifts, and etc? A good majority of the time man do all these things without receiving the same amount of attention. Does that really seem fair? Is that what you call equal? Doesn't women want to be treated fairly and as equal as men? But no, from numerous relationships the man must do all these things while the women doesn't do anything and that's suppose to be right? Many will say that men needs to do these things because of all the misogyny and whatnot from the past. So basically we must treat our women like queens while they treat us like trash just so we can compensate for male ignorance and mistreatment of women? Does that make sense?

Remember that in this world, no one is obligated to do anything for anyone no matter what. We all have choices and we can make our own decisions. Men don't have to do what a women wants and vice versa. These all are choices.

Don't worry, I know a lot of man are pigs, especially when you take care of them they become lazy and don't do the same things before as in the beginning of a relationship and that's wrong. This is one of the reasons why women our discourage from treating a man the real way she wants to treat him if she likes him. Both sexes have issues that they have to deal with.

I'm currently in a relationship and I try to make my girlfriend as happy as possible and vice versa. She's a good women, why? Because when most of the time I pay for the bill, she offers to pay for it and I say no, or when she wants to go out somewhere but I don't have any money, she says she will pay. She opens as many doors for me as I do for her when my hands are tied or when I'm not well. This is an example of a good woman who doesn't worry about what she's getting, but how she's treating me. She's giving as much as I am, a true 50/50 relationship.

Relationships must be this way in order for them to work. A man must bring what he has to offer the same time a woman does. When you do that, you guys will commence a mutual trade between yourselves so one another can be happy. This is harmony and this has to be developed.

So now to the point, chivalry is not dead, but due to unbalanced relationshps, it is dying. If women showed the same manners as men did instead of being drained by their needs, then most men would still act this way. Vice versa when its a women giving her all and a man doesn't do much at the same time. We need balance in everything to live peacefully.

BTW, a lot of the times nice guys do these things for women, but they get trampled on women and slowly, they begin to realize being a jerk is better because for some reason, a lot of women are being mesmerized by the jerk types. Being a jerk insures no real attachment and you get want you need from women. Many nice guys believe that so women should really give them a break so they can stay nice.

Most Important Word: Balance

nope, it's going away a little bit, but there's still guys out there with some manners.
growing up i was never allowed to walk through a door before anybody else, couldn't sit on the train if anyone was standing, couldn't eat until everyone at the table has their food, etc.
I still try to use the same manners and values I learned growing up, but there are def a lot of rude people out there!

I love when a man has nice manners like that, but sadly, it seems that its the much older men that do, while the younger ones don't. I remember being pregnant and on a train standing up... an elderly man gave up his seat for me, while a group of teenage boys stayed in theirs. Its the elderly gentlemen who will open doors, and pull out a chair for a lady.. while the ones my age and younger.... don't.

Not quite, but it should be. It's outdated and meaningless. You can't expect men to do everything in an age where women can do anything.

I see less and less men doing this. But when I find one that does, he's a good one. I try to keep ahold of him. It's sort of a turn-on when guys are polite these days.

It's not just men...everyone is increasingly wrapped up in themselves. We are becoming jaded and rude...on the path to self-destruction.
