You beat me to it.

It is a parable.

So is the story of an apostle writing about Jesus

It is reading a parable of a man who tells parables about men telling parables.

Maybe but is that really important? If it has a message that you can relate to then embrace it. There are worse things you can live by.

All religion is based on faith, you believe even though the hard evidence isn't there. Also it is based on truth.

Facts and truths have a lot in common but they aren't the same thing. A clever person can openly lie with totally factual statements. And a work of fiction can be a storehouse of truth.

Parable or history, how does it effect you? Does it make you want to live a better life?

Do you see an angry Jesus ready to come back and cleanse the Earth of all the sinful scum with blood and fire? Or do you see a loving prophet ready to forgive and guide you through life and beyond?

Both versions of Jesus are there in the Bible. And there are plenty of followers of both. Still what's important is -what do you believe? -why do you believe it? -and how do you act on your beliefs?

Good question.
How many "parables" last 2000 years, dramatically impact history, and improve people's lives on a daily basis?
If it is a parable, then it's the best one ever written and worthy of being investigated for its content rather than it origin.

I don't believe that it is, but I suppose it's possible. A realistic story that taught spiritual truths, even if the details were not literally accurate. Either way, we shoudl learn what we can from Jesus, just as we should learn from others as well. Blessings in the Light of Christ!

I'm leaning towards "yes". reason being is because if Jesus was part of history, then why does the gospels differ from gospel to gospel if it was witnessed firsthand by his disciples? firsthand history is easy to remember. you and i can and will have the same exact story of what happened during the 9-11 attacks because we experienced it firsthand right? why do the gospels differ then? i think the bible is a very good book, but it's not the ONLY book.

I think there was probably a real guy who inspired it all, but I think the actual stories you read are parables.

Yes.
Mostly because the missing archaeological data is profound.

I suppose it is possible it was all dug up by relic hunters in the 15th century, but in that case at least some of it should be on display at the vatican museums.

Not a change.Jesus fulfilled the prophecy and confirmed the Old Testament. God's word is the same forever.

Anything is possible, but given all of the prophecy preceeding Jesus Christ, that theory isn't likely.
