I am running a 5k in April and am now doing about a 13 min mile. To me, that doesn't sound like a good time. What is your opinion of a good 5k time? Thanks!

I want to do well because I am part of a marathon relay. My part is a 5k. I don't want to slack it. :-)

I ran my first 5K a few months ago in 34 minutes 21 seconds. There were only about 150 people and only 2 people came in behind me. BUT, I had so much fun! I am doing 2 more this spring. My goal was not for a time, it was to finish the race without walking at all. And I did, so I reached my goal. That was the best feeling. You usually do a little better than if you're just jogging for exercise. Now I have a time to beat in the next race. I think you should go at a pace you're comfortable with and forget about everyone else. Then when you run the next race, you set your goal for something like 1 minute faster than the last time. Before you know it, you'll be running 8 minute miles! And by the way, I think you're awesome for having the courage to run in a race. Good luck!

I agree...have fun and don't worry about time..but that's not what you're looking for. A good time for a 5K would be 30-35 minutes, About a 10 minute/mile rate.

yeah just try to walk and jog the race.. don't be intimidated by all the "pros" walking around in their short shorts with brand new shoes and 100 dollar watches. I show up in jeans and warm up and smoke all of 'em with my 14:00 5k haha... but as for you... just show up and enjoy the running atmosphere and just be happy that you're out there exercising and being healthy :)

My best 5K was around 22 minutes.

You can walk a 5K. It doesn't matter what your time is. Have fun and enjoy the atmosphere. You can go to http://www.runnersworld.com they have a lot of good advice.

For most people, anything under 30 minutes is good.

The top runners can do it in 15 or less.
