The tallest freestanding structure in the world right now is the CN Tower in Toronto. it's 553 metres tall.

The Sears Tower is still the tallest building *according to some standards*. According to others, the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur is taller. The difference is whether an antenna or a spire are counted in the height of the buildings.

But there is a tower under construction in Dubai that will tower above all of them, at about 750 metres tall and 160 stories.
