Strain seems to be your problem. Buy one of those eye masks that they sell in all drug stores. you put them in the freezer or refrigerator (depending on which one you buy) and then when you have a few minutes lie down and put it over your eyes.
It reduces puffiness, helps the redness, relieves strain and is a cheap way to reduce your eye pain.
Also, buy natural tears and keep your eyes lubricated while you're working. That's what the eye Dr. told me and it works

Here's the answer. I am a programmer myself and expirienced the same.
The main problem lies with the eyes not getting enough moisture because we tend to stare at the monitor for long periods of time.
Natural solution -
Blink often. This triggers the eye to release the natural fluid it needs to ease pressure. Blinking often will lubricate your eyeballs and the strain will disappear in no time.
Every 15 minutes remember to look away from the computer monitor. Look at a far away distance preferably something of green color.
Still there? wet a small towel with cold water and lie down with eyes closed and put the damp towel on your closed eyes.

First sleep well. If doing strenuous work, rest for some time in between by closing your eyes. Wash your eyes with fresh cold water often during the day. At night, put few drops of rose water in your eyes. Never rub your eyes but wash with water.

My husband's eyes "went down" real fast when he first started using a computer a lot. Anything that's not natural is usually not good for our body! The only thing I can suggest is to take a 5 min. break outdoors every hour! A brish walk would be good for your whole body while your eyes are getting some rest!

Gentle massage the eyes with the heal of your palms, This is to relive you of the strain.
clod water is very helpful, fill your mouth with sufficient water now gently splash water on your eyes gradually open and close them , there should be a slight burning sensation if it is done correctly . now spit out the water in your mouth. Doing this once or twice must be sufficient. Itone a aurvedic eye cleaning liquid also gave me the relief ,

Get cold , thin slices of cucumber and rest it on your eyes as often as you please. Relax when doing this. Try to get a good night sleep. And get one of those things that you put over your computer screen to take the glare off.

hiya,
have you tried cooling masks? you just pop them in the fridge for a while & put them over your eyes whilst laying down. i find them really helpful. or just take some cucumber (which has been refrigerated) & cut some slices & put them over your eyes. both work just as well!
