This sounds like a "referred pain". This happens when one is actually damaged (hurt) in a certain place (back) but the pain is somewhere else (hip). If this is you, you may wish to follow advice for an acute back injury.

If there is also pain under your rib cage in the center or right side it may be your gallbladder. I had my gallbladder removed and my symptoms were sharp pain in the back ner my shoulder blades and pain under my rib cage towards the right side. I could not tell half the time if it was my back or almost my stomach. My suggestion is to get to a doctor. It could be anything.. Pulled muscel, gallbladder..just about anything. The doctor should be able to solve the problem.. Hope ya feel better.
