US Army- Main mission is to fight a protracted ground war, infantry and armoured division. Specialities within the service are Rangers, and SF.
US Navy- Pretty obvious what they do, they are also a key air support component for the US Marines. They have their own miniature air force at their disposal. The Marines also fall under their umbrella for everything.
US Air Force- The air wing of Americas Military, they proide security for bases and of course almost all of the air might the US has to offer. Used for logistics as well
US Marines- See all the above, Based off of Naval ships called Gator Freighters, you can break the Marine Corps down like this Infantry, and Air. Only branch of the service that is almost 100% self supported. Does everything that the army, and navy does on a smaller scale. Smallest branch of the service.
US Coast Guard- Falls under the department of transportation, referred to as puddle pirates. Think Navy without the cool stuff. Rescues, and performs sea interdictions of smugglers and the like.
All branches have a reserve component, and the National Guard is the Army no matter what anyone tells you.

Navy= typiclly battleships and submarines still has its amphibious special forces (navy seals) and some planes
Army= grunt work basiclly considered the lowlifes of the military but easiest to get into. has paratroopers special forces (Rangers) and regular infantry
Marines= more trained then army harder to get into much of the same duties (dont know much about these)
Air Force= fly planes, airdrops, fighter planes, bombing runs, special forces fly the F15 and they are the Aces
Coast Guard= (if you want to call it a branch of the military) rescues on our seas
hope this helped
