It was totally weird, my mom told me. The maid had what looked like a bible in her hand, was facing the open window and was screaming and rambling, stamping her feet, shaking her body. She even farted! We have no idea what to make of it. We figure it must be some voodoo thing. What do you guys think?

maybe she had the holy spirit. Not all Haitians practice vodou. Many are also catholic and protestant. The bible is not used in Vodou at all. And personal experience has showed me that people do not scream, ramble, stamp feet (well certain lwa do this during possession), and they certainly don't fart. That is just bad manners.
Reality: She is probably a little off in the head. If you think she is crazy then replace her. If you think she practices vodou ask her. Vodou is not an evil religion. We are about helping our family, the house, and above all the community. Those who are less fortunate. My house donates food, clothing, and other supplies to the homeless shelter every fet (service).
Bottom line if you don't want her there replace her and find someone else that you like. I would definitely talk to her first.

She farted? That is funny, BUT she really should be left alone to pray the way she wishes. I'm sure she does it all the time and your mom jsut happen to see her this time. Has it affected her work ethic? After all, that is what she is there for, right?

If you're actually serious....she's from a different culture than you and rituals are far more verbal and physical in Haiti. If we could all be more free with our spirituality that would be a beautiful thing.

Leave her be. She's was probably just doing a prayer. She has a right to her beliefs. If you are weirded out why not ask her exactly what she was doing.

Why not leave her to her own devices? Is she hurting you? Then let her have her religion, whatever it is. It's not really your business anyways. She's free to worship whoever/however she pleases.

If it bothers you that she does this let her go. Or see if she'll comply in refraining from doing this ritual while she is on the premises, if not let her go.
