Because there just isn't enough time during the school day to learn everything. You have to take some home. Kids are lucky they get to take it home with them and work on it because us adults that have to work, there is no taking it home. We have to work overtime instead. Imagine kids being in school overtime!

Free time is for after hw and during breaks. I am a high school senior and believe me I have had my fill of senioritis but I've realized when I do my homework the next day I remember it. When I don't I have to think back to the last class period at what I did. And in Pre-Calculas it is a bit difficult! Hw provides time to sit down and work on the problems, to give more time to analysing things rather than just zipping through and getting it done it time. Also if there is a parent or older person at home it can give a new perspective on something that is being taught and the teacher does not have the best way of teaching. The school days should be more about trying to do good not socializing that's for the weekends. And believe me if I have 4 AP classes, pre-cal, 3 other classes, two sisters to take care of, along with a pet and a house to clean while my mother is Iraq and I still have free time then others should too!

Bottom line is that homework reinforces what is being taught during school hours.

You have free time, but perhaps not as much as you'd like. Get the homework out of the way and then you can enjoy the rest of your evening unencumbered by schoolwork.

I personally find that homework does not help me do better at school. It is more about what you can get out from school for yourself. Basically it is because teachers think that it will help you to learn stuff but sometimes like in my case it doesn't. The whole point is that you learn and remember things, if you do, I see no point in doing homework.

I agree. They should have less work, but the point of homework is to renforce what they learned in school and is usally very handy. I still think that the workload should be lightened.

well kids have this full time job and its just to study! they go to school to learn new things and interact but revision at home is also important! thus they have homeworks. they have to do it because teachers do not trust they will revise on their own, so they're forced to do. all to secure a proper job in future..har
