Is emailing customer care an exercise in futility?

And if so does that mean the terrorist win?

If someone reports it, it is not automatically deleted, but if the Y!Answers team finds that it really is in violation, they will remove it.

No, I haven't had a question deleted, but I have had answers deleted. 4 times. Only once did I get my points back, but my answer was not put back on the board. and yes, it does do some good to email customer care, they do review it. Yes, if someone reports you, it's automatically deleted, and you lose the 2 points you got for answering, and another 10 points penalty. I would assume it's the same for questions.

Yahoo claims that each report is reviewed by a "customer service representative" before being actioned. There is no evidence that this actually occurs, and the experience of many users is that if it does, the process lacks the most basic elements of accountablity.

The reporting system ought to be a means of dealing with abuses. Unfortunately, it seems that the system facilitates abuses.

There is no simple solution to this: true accountability requires resources, and I'm not sure Yahoo can afford this at this stage.

Pangel is an example of a user who is continually suffering abuse because of weaknesses in the system. Most of us respect her guts for persisting despite that.

No. However, recently I've heard hearsy that deducted points were restored, however. I don't believe it though. It's certainly not worth the heartache or hassle, in any case.

Things get reported all the time. Questions and answers from all sides of the issue get deleted on a regular basis. That's why I don't bother posting a lot of questions.

Never had a question or answer reinstated. I have contacted customer care, got a form answer, but I honestly don't think anyone actually reads the supposedly offending posts.

I never had a problem with a question but I think you need to explain your side of the story and read the Terms and Conditions before reinstatement

I had a question deleted because it violated community guidelines (I asked for a cut-and-paste copy of a PA statute; presumably, it was a copyright violation). I appealed, pointing out that laws cannot be copywritten -- it's public information. I was given my points back, but the question stayed deleted.

It took two days. They did reply, and said that it had been reviewed and reposted. It was but late at night, so I got allot of answers from people I wasn't familiar with.
