I want live there but I just want to know about the crime levels. If you don't think it's secure, why not? And if you do, why?

For the most part, NYC is very safe. There are bad parts just like anywhere else, and if you choose to live there, then you must do so carefully.

As for being secure, which is a completely different question, I don't think NYC is that secure. There are a great many landmarks in NYC and it's almost impossible to protect them all. Also, because NYC is so big and has numerous points of egress and entrance, a terrorist can get in & out a lot of different ways.

My friend just realized that he has lived in the same apartment for 7 years and the 2nd entrance (behind the firdge, so he doesn't use it) hasn't been locked since he moved in.

NYC is pretty safe. I get scared when I go to Philly or Baltimore.

a lot more secure and safer than it was over 6yrs ago. There are a lot horse patrols but you will not see security in force until u reach the subways and airports.
