my husband wants to put in a home securuty system. He wants to do a motion sensor alarm in our daughters room. He does not want to use window contacts. He says that it will be fine even when she is sleeping in there becasuse he is going to aim it at the window area and her bed will be behind the sensor and out of it's "view". Even if she gets up to use the bathtroom she would not be going in its view. I am worried that her just being in the room will trip it off. Any thoughts????

Motion sensor works like a camera, if it cant see you it wont go on.

but motion sensors can be trigged very easily, its not about seeing someone its the movement it makes so if the window opens.

check on google on how motion sensors work, but i would suggest just to put the window alarm, if the window breaks, opens etc... motion sensors only in extreme cases.

I have seen very accurate sensors that will allow you to program in exactly what you want to trigger them. However, these were used in industrial settings and I'm sure you wouldn't want to do that in a bedroom since they cost in the thousands of dollars.
The residential ones are not that accurate and they will trip when the furnace comes on or the curtains move.
I have used them on light switches and these are some of the troubles I have had with them. I wound up replacing the sensor and just put in a dimmer.
If that is what your husband wants then let him try and hopefully it works. A better thought may be to use the shock sensor on the glass and the magnetic sensors to detect the open window. Good luck

Use a window contact and glass breakage detector.
