It's part of human nature to be attracted to the opposite sex and sexual feelings may come up, even after an extended friendship. The platonic relationship has to be established by both parties and shouldn't be breached without mutual consent. I've had male friends for years and just been that; friends. So, in short, the answer is maybe. What makes the difference is how each person would handle those sexual feelings and whether they'd act upon it or not.

I am a firm believer that there will almost always be some kind of sexual tension there, even if they're lifelong friends (Unless of course there is absolutely no physical attraction whatsoever). It may also depend on the maturity of the individuals and whether each person truly knows what they want out of life (i.e. their marriage, spouse, family, etc).
In my personal experience, my bf's "platonic" friendships have had devastating effects on us. One minute he would say "we're just friends" but by the e-mails there was always something suggestive in the discussions. He eventually admitted that sexual tension was always a factor.
--Message to people out there who are married or who are in committed relationships... PLEASE stay away from "platonic" friendships. If you want to hang out with them, do so in the company of your partner ONLY. And end all private phone calls and e-mails. You may think these things are innocent, but 9 times out of 10 it will lead to some kind of "feelings."

As far as guys go no guy can have a platonic relationship unless its a relative (and sometimes that doesnt matter) or unless he's gay. The sex thing always gets in the way ! I AM A GUY.

I have been very close friends with a couple of woman.
And one I know had sexual feelings ,because she told me so and left her husband for a few months over it.
And I have a very close friend that is female and we talk about everything. And we both have had sexual feelings but never have went with them. Because we did not want to kill our friendship.

Unless an man is gay, he is not going to be just Friends with a woman with out any sexual thoughts. Also I do not know any wife who would be OK with it.

It just depends on the people. I have a lot of male friends who are married, but I'm also friends with their wives. I have yet to experience any sexual tension with any of them, but that could be because of my relationship with their wives.

Of course she can, anyone can have a platonic relationship.
It takes maturity and trust on all sides of course, but it certainly isn't out of the question.
