I recently got a lhasa apso who looks like a mop. Any good grooming tips?

Hi I have a lhasa and just lost one last year. They had two different types of coats My males was thin and straighter than my female. Hers is thick and curly. The best thing to do is take your baby to a groomer the first time to see how they can trim around the eyes which you have to be very careful. and their hind quarters. I trim mine when it gets too thick on my own but love to keep the fullness in the winter. Summer time they got trimmed shorter so they would be cooler for the heat. Depending where you live would make a difference and we get cold winters here. My curly female tends to knot so I cut them out myself. They have to be brushed to keep the knots down. You will enjoy that breed though as I love mine and they are a good companion

I have a lhasa apso and I take her to the groomers every 4 to 6 weeks. I keep her in a "puppy" cut, leave the beard the beautiful tail and long ears, but the rest is cut shorter. She does not matt with this cut. Your dog probably needs to go to the groomer at least this time, to get her all cleaned up and if don't want to take her in the future, you can learn to do it yourself. The long, long show dog lhasa coat, is way to much work for me.

You may want to invest a little money and have her/him professionally groomed the first time. After that , if you brush your dog every day for a little while,it should keep him/her from having a bad hair day. Most animals that get brushed every day come to like the time they spend with there humans in this way.It will at least keep hair from getting knotted up.You'll know when its time to get a cut again. You could keep it trimmed if you don't want that fancy look they do at the groomers and save yourself some money.

The best thing to do is to cut off any of the REALLY bad knots. The rest can be brushed out and you can also give your dog a good bath.

Calm down the dog and sit it on a table make it do good deeds while grooming it with any kind of scissors and give it teats while being good.
