For example, let's say that the economies of Mexico, Guatamala, El Salvador, and all other Central and South American countries were improved. The standard of living became equal to that of the United States, where there was plenty of work, low unemployment levels and stable economies.

Would this stem the flow of illegal immigrants flowing into the US?

Would those illegal immigrants already here consider returning to their home countries?

Firstly let me say that this is quite possibly the best question that i have ever seen on this site.

It's so relavent, and might actually help those that are close minded see that those people from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador etc.. Dont go to the States because they want to, but because they have too.

I'm from El Salvador, but currently live in Australia. When i left i was only young so i had no choice, i had to leave. It was during the war and life in ES at that stage was not really a sound option. Although, we immigrated to Australia legally, i know of various people who have gone to the States illegaly for a chance at a better life. Of these people, i know that all of them have the desire to one day return to there home country. But again, its not a valid option for those who are currently earning 150 dollars a week in the States working illegaly to go back to El Salvador for example, were the minimum wage is as low as 120 dollars a month.

I can't speak for other Latin American countries but in ES there are HUGE amounts of money that get sent back from the States by illegals to their family's in El Salvador. As much as the illegals i know would love to return to there countries, they simply cant afford to. Because although they know that they risk being deported for working and being in the States illegaly, they would much rather work hard and send back money to there families so that they might find life abit little easier. You have to remember that 80% of Latin America is considered Third World, life isn't easy. People do what they do for the good of there families. In saying this i am in no way stating that all illegals are there with the purpose of helping there familes back home. But i know for a fact, that there are MANY more good law obeying illegals then bad ones. Now i know some might think, how is any illegal law obeying, because for the simple fact of being there they are not obeying the law. But what i mean by law obeying is that they dont go out and look for trouble. They are there simply to work and make a better life for there families back home.

But if as you say, our home country's economy's became more stable, and could offer the standard of living that the US provides, then i wouldn't be surprised to see a large portion of the USA illegals return to there native countries.

Latin people are proud of there heratige and i know that for myself, i am never as happy as when i am in my home land. And i would imagine that there are many others who my be living in the US illegaly that feel the same way. We love our home land, and we dont leave it because we want to, but again, because we have too.

If for example, atleast one country in Latin America offered the same opportunities as the US, then people would go to that country for the simple fact that it is closer to there own.

Hopefully we can one day see ALL Latin American countries no longer be classifed as third world, and we can see those illegals return to live there lives in peace.

In concluding,
I'd just like to thank you for asking this question. Hopefully it will get people thinking and help them see that there is more to an illegal then what some seem to think.

It is not Mexican economy that the problem, it the corruption in the government. Mexico has things that they could be keeping employees working, Oil, wood, ores, etc. , And tourism that they do not take care of, the government wants to allow their people to rob, cheat and steal from visitors.
So when the Mexicans clean up their government then they have a good country.

It has improved by way of illegals sending american money there, the rich there will not allow their own people to get ahead there, these illegals here need to go home and protest there for a better life, they will not find it here, they will only take ours away

It would be better only if the rich there (and there are already many) agreed they should be providing free universal education for their poor. Mexico has plenty of money to do this, for example, but they don't.

NO! Here they get free stuff. They don't pay taxes. It might stop some but there are too many advantages to being here. What would help is to enforce our existing laws!

Mexico screams for help to fix their problems. It isn't America's responsibility to fix these other countries, besides it wouldn't work.

I doubt it would.Besides when they come here they get lots of free stuff without working for it.

Yes it would but there is too too much corruption for that to ever happen.
