Dogs are pack animals and need to recognise you as the leader of their pack, and have respect for you. You must be 100% consistent in managing this problem. Every time he jumps up and/or nips, lightly but firmly pinch him on the side of the neck while pushing him down and firmly say the word "no". This is how his pack leader would discipline him, and he will soon get the message.
Never pay a lot of attention to his bad behaviour, and try not to make eye-contact with him while you are doing the disciplining. This applies to all problems you might encounter. If you make a huge song and dance over him doing something wrong he'll soon learn that this is a great way to get even more attention from you. What I mean by this is don't chase him all round the house if he runs off with a shoe or something. Good luck.

Don't you just love it when people on here try to be funny?!........Well I had the same problem with my dog. The vet told me that when he nips yell OUCH like your mortally injured then walk away and ignore him for a minuet or so then resume what you were doing before. This teaches the dog that nipping doesn't give him a response that he is favorable to him. Don't bat him on the nose or anything like that he'll only think your initiating it. I only had to do that a few times and he got the picture. The jumping just say DOWN in a stern voice EVERY time he jumps then take him front legs and put them on the ground keep doing it and soon he'll learn the command "down" that took a while for my dog to learn but he's got it now. Also to help it along do it a few times then go outside come back in a minuet later when you finally come in and he doesn't jump give him lots of pets and a treat and make a big deal out of it. Eventually he'll grasp that not jumping gives him a better response then jumping did....Good Luck!!

If the dog jumps up the person needs to turn their back on him and ignore him. As for the nipping usually this stops after a while anyway but try holding the dogs mouth and saying no immediately it nips

You need to make sure you say no loudly whenever he does it. Have you tried going to puppy training you may be able to pick up some hints from there to help you. Our family dog goes berserk when i first go in and he bites hard, its hard to get them out of it once they used to it, so you best start now while the dog is so young.
Also you can fill a normal pop bottle with pebbles and shake it hard to startle the dog and make sure you say no in a commanding voice at the same time.

you need to COMPLETELY ignore him when he does this. cross your arms, turn your back and storm away from him. don't push him off, don't yell at him, don't even give him eye contact. all of those things seem negative to you, but to him they are attention, which is just what he is looking for. he will quickly learn that jumping/nipping will cause his friends to go away. if might take a few times of him trying again and again, but if you don't give in, he'll give up. he's still young and should learn this pretty quick. when ever he is sitting nicely, that is when he gets lots of attention and treats.

I have owned dogs all my life (I'm 59 now)
A tried tested and proven method to stop you dog jumping up is to put your kenee out when he jumps so that he land with his chest on your knee (He hurt himself you didn't make him jump into your knee). and tell him firmly "NO!"
He will learn not to jump very quickly.
It's a case of being cruel to be kind

If you enter the house and he jumps up and you try going down to his level. If you crouch on the floor he will learn that he does not need to jump p to get your attention.
Also, if you simply ignore him as soon as he jumps up them he will eventually learn that it does not achieve anything. If you interact with him every time he jumps up then he is getting what he wants - your attention so he will keep doping it. Ignore him and he will learn that he has to be calm to get your attention, of course when he is calm you need to praise him lots.
A final one is teach him to shake a paw, one of the simplest tricks to teach. Then if he is jumping up ask him the shake paw, it will get to the point that he will instantly sit down and raise his paw. Again give him loads of praise when he does this.
Don't forget that he is only little still and will have to grow out of this puppy behaviour, it is quite normal behaviour for collies.
Good luck with it x

The easiest way is a NO bottle. Fill a spray bottle with water, and when he jumps up, spray him in the face, saying NO loudly at the same time. A few sprays will fix the problem.
Collies do tend to be nippy, they are herding dogs.
