The more relaxed your muscle is the less it will hurt. When giving an injection I find an anxious patient needs to look away, then I kind of act busy and act like I'm not quite ready when in fact I am actually giving the injection, most of the time they really don't know. The needles used today are so tiny as to be almost invisible, when I was younger, before so much disease, reusable needles were on a syringe and they were much larger and far more painful since they usually left a large bruise.

I hate needles also. The sad part of that sentence is that I have to do an injection every other night for my MS medicine. I have been doing this for 4 years now and still am scared each time I do it. Also when I have to go to the hospital and they have to give a shot I cringe and ask them if they can numb the area before I get an IV.

If you are having an IV injection you could ask them if they can numb the area before they try to find a vein. Yes, it is a shot but just a little sting. It feels like a little bug bite, but then you don't feel the actual shot.

Good luck to you.

It hurts alot less when you don't watch and think about something else. It's probably the anxiety of it that's more painful than the injection itself.

It depends on what kind of injection and how tense you are! Some nurses give shots better than others!
