For my daughter's 6th birthday we are going horseback riding. But I wanted some activities/games for the kids to play while they wait for their rides. We're going to have country music playing, bandanas, etc. But does anyone have any ideas of what else we could do? Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

Have the kids make and decorate "vests" out of brown paper bags.

Fill a large rubbermaid container with sand and water. Mix some pennies in with the sand. Give each child a pie plate or sand sifter and have them "pan for gold."

Since you're going to have music playing anyway, teach them a quick, simple square dance (just make one up--they won't know the difference, anyway!). Or play musical chairs!

Have fun!

They could bob for apples and give the apple they got to the horse they ride.

Ask the stable for used horse shoes ( before the party so you can clean them) and bring some glitter and ribbons, silk flowers and such and have the girls decorate thier own horse shoe as a keepsake from tha party.

bring some books related to horses and have a story time

ask the stable if they could clean a horse with the kids watching and maybe they could each take a turn brushing the horse.

if you or someone you know can draw well, have them draw a horse on poster board, and then cut out tails from construction paper and play pin the tail on the horse.

sorry thats all I can think of at the moment.

Horse races. Let them have a stick pony race and "gallop" around a little track. You can give the a paper horse head to color or if you can get some little stick horses with yarn manes they can put ribbons and braids in them. I considered the getting them each a horseshoe to decorate but used shoes tend to be very worn out and rust instantly. If you have the time you can order shiny new shoes cheaply online. Good luck and have fun.

You could do a mini-scavenger hunt with simple clues that 6 year olds can understand and keep them confined to the area that you want them confined in. Go to party city and get neat prizes so everyone wins something small (party city is great for a lot of neat things and cheap prices). You can also go to Party City and probably find ideas for games that you never would've thought of otherwise. Happy birthday to your daughter!!! =)

Dunking for apples, horseshoes, pin the tail on the donkey, musical chairs or have a guessing game like marbles in a jar. Have a picture stand like with a saddle and a haybale and have them pose for pictures with their little bandanas on..lol. Good luck and it sounds like alot of fun!!
