1/4 cup onions minced
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
1/4 cup flour
3 cups chicken broth or bouillon
1 tablespoon paste
Salt and freshly ground pepper
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 cup chicken diced cooked
1/4 cup vermouth or dry sherry
Dash nutmeg ground
Dash mace ground
1 tablespoon parsley minced fresh

These sound good! A local Italian restaurant where I live serves "bread soup" that has a cream base with little bits of shredded chicken in it. It has toasted Italian type bread or croutons on it that have a chewy feel when dunked in the soup.

I have absolutely no idea.
But why don't you give the party hostess/host a call. I'm sure she/he would be more than happy to give you the recipe or at least tell you what the soup is called.
