I guess we have it wrong Sean. If God talks to somebody from 2,000 years ago it must be true but if he talks to someone today it then they are lying.

I'm not sure I can explain why but I do not think Joan of Ark was wrong or neccessarily a liar. God says (paraphrasing here) draw close to me and I will draw close to you. Therefor I think those who love Him most dearly might have a more open line of communication. Empirical evidence - I saw a documentary years ago that scientific discoveries now support the fact that we all came from one woman. Something in our DNA actually confirms this. But that really just proves one biblical story. I guess you have to look around yourself and ask "could this world really happen by accident or did someone have to divine it?"

Christiand believe that the Bible is the word of God. That it accurately contains everything he needs to convey to man about who he is, who man is, and how to have a relationship with him.
But we do NOT limit him to ONLY speaking through the Bible. Rather Christians believe that God can and does speak to people on a daily basis. He gives them the wisdom and guidance they need for each day.
When you actually read the Bible, you will find that most of the information contained within it comes from "personal religious revelation". The authors encountered God in their lives, and recorded that encounter for us. Very little of the Bible is "word for word dictation" from God.
Whether Joan of Arc actually DID hear from God or not is another issue. But that she (or anyone) CAN hear from God is a standard Christian doctrine.

She claimed to be hearing voices.
Perhaps she was.
She was blood thirsty.
She led an army.
She was executed by the church.
They performed an inquisition on her and found her to be a heretic.
It is thought that she had a mental disorder.
Perhaps a form of epilepsy.
There are about 20 different forms.
The church bell could have been her trigger.
As far as empirical evidence of the existence of God, forget it.
It is Faith. Why don't you get it?

wait a minute - don't confuse God's revelation to us (the Bible) with our talking to Him! Prayer is a means whereby we may communicate our hearts to God and He might impart his blessing to us - it compliments but in no way supercedes the written word of God.
If anyone needs to talk to God, it is George Bush!
Prayer is a great privilege of the child of God.
god bless

Yes, Bush spoke with God.
He asked "What would Jesus invade?"
He also consults with unicorns who advise him that tax cuts for billionaires are good for everyone, although they never explain why that is.
