I would have to say that British forces could take on Iran in solitary fashion but like one other responed, as long as they were not going to occupy. The numbers are just too great in Iran's favor. However, I think UK forces could make short work of them if they had to with a massive strike.

I think in quality of training and quality of equipment the British Army is a top-notch force. I do not think they could defeat Iran on their own because at some point you have to secure and hold ground, and they just do not have the physical numbers for that.

Not enough manpower for an invasion,but you could stand back and hammer them into the stone age with conventional weapons.
Leave nothing bigger than a dog house standing and that includs oil wells.
Be nice about it,give 24 hrs. warning before you take out a city block.

They would need an actual navy to do this. You Brits need to take a close look at your military needs and spend the money to fill those needs. Ignoring your military needs and cutting spending in order to balance your budget will put you in a situation where you cannot get to Iran.
