Where did that someone go to get "diagnosed with depression"? And how long has that someone been unhappy with their life? It is true that almost every human gets down or unhappy sometimes in their lives. It's when they stay down or depressed for a long time that they may need some help to come out of that unhappiness or sadness. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they need pills. I would suggest that that person seek out professional help with a licensed therapist in a mental health center to talk out what is bothering them & see if they can come up with some good coping skills that will help when they are feeling down before anyone says to them "I think you should be taking medicine!"
That's what I did, cause I was truly sad all the time & I needed someone to talk to before I could even think of taking medicine. Everyone is different & you may be that someone who isn't happy with their life who's asking for help. Well this is my suggestion. Hope this helps!

Very well said sweetheart...
But you do have to say that responsibly... Some people require medication as a prerequisite. It is a part of their condition to look to something outside themselves for help. For people like this... Medication is THE ONLY thing that will work. It is unfortunate... but true. Therefore doing away with all psychiatric meds is not the answer... Some people do need them.
Some people such as yourself realize that it's not always the answer. You are strong and having a period of weakness everyone is entitled to that and the sympathy that gets them through it. Just as long as you understand that the light at the end of the tunnel is not a life dependent upon an external source of healing.
Too few people are presented with that as an option. I simply believe that drugs are introduced as a solution far too soon. and should only, and always be a last resort.

Your right medication doesnt always work and just because your not happy doesn't mean that you are depressed. The medical reason why so many people who are unhappy are put on medication is because of chemical imbalances in the brain. But if you dont feel like this is the issue then maybe you are unhappy because you just want more out of life. Perhaps some sort of volunteer work would make you happy, or try something that you've always wanted to learn. Good Luck

There are different types of depression. Some I think are more real than others. I agree with you I hate it when the advice people say is "Oh go take some anti-depressants to solve your problems". From my experience though there are people who are sad or down and then there are those who are actually depressed. Depression is an entirely different condition which I think most people suggest is the problem too frequently. Genuine depression isn't just feeling sad it could be better described as chronic hopelessness and apathy.

I guess it could be related to something like if you have a headache do you take Advil or just suffer through it unnecessarily? The big difference is that a headache will most likely be gone tomorrow, depression has robbed me of years and nearly my life several times. I think it is a stigma that comes with mental health that needs to be stopped. You would have no problem going to your Dr. for a mild case of the flu yet when someone is having their life turned upside down and is unable to cope it is not OK?
This kind of thinking is part of what perpetuates the problem of mental health stigmas in society that act as barriers to people seeking treatment.

I agree, I feel the cure to depression is doing the thing you love or do best, as long as it doesn't harm anyone. Everyone goes through depression sometimes, even myself, I always feel how good it would be to be a kid again.
Like me, when I'm sad or depressed, I listen to my favorite music which is hard rock, watch wrestling(WWE), workout at the gym, chat with friends, cracking jokes with friends and so much more. People who undergo depression should know that depression wont be forever if they do something fast to cure it. So I feel depression can be cured of maybe brought down a lot by doing the we have passion for, doing the thigns we do best.
It helps me, hope it helps everyone too.

We all have our ups and downs, but if you feel like you're in a pit and someone's thrown a wet blanket over you, you need to see a doctor for depression. That doesn't mean you'll have to take medication forever, but you need help getting out of the pit! For those with clinical depression, they must get professional help to enjoy life even a little!

BECAUSE THE DEFINITION OF DEPRESSION IS AS FOLLOWS:
Depression may be described as feeling sad, blue, unhappy, miserable, or down in the dumps. Most of us feel this way at one time or another for short periods.
