The restrictions started with the influx of illegal aliens in the forties.

I don´t know when, but I can guess why.
I´m mexican, but I went to live in Canada for a while.
US has more restrictions at the mexican border because many poor mexican people have tried to go to US in the last century to live there becasuse they think that they will have a better life, sometimes they find it.
On the other hand, many Canadians think that American people are very ignorant and they hate when someone think that they are Americans, so they go to US on vacations or for working and only some of them stay to live there.
So US doesn´t have the same restrictions, they just don´t need them in the canadian border.
Canadian people sometimes say, there is a big problem between Mexico and Canada, and that´s USA, but I bet they would think like US about the border if we were neighbors.
And also because of the canadian weather, they don´t have so many homeless people.

It should be the same, since they have been caught tunneling and Canada basically told the U.S to get lost after 9/11. They were asked to help us with the border. They are just as bad as those from the southern border, letting everybody in, since they do it! They do not care about the American side of the border, simple as that. Socialist/Marxists!

Well, let's see. MILLIONS of people each year try to come illegally over the southern border, and don't over the Northern border.

However, the restrictions are the same as I understand it. I just think that is ridiculous. You don't amputate both legs if only one has a problem 'just to seem fair'.

Excellent question. We do know that the 9/11 terrorists came over the Canadian-US Border. . . so it's not for homeland security reasons. . . .let me think. . .hmmm, what might be driving this different policy on the Southern Border??? I think, unfortunately so, it has to do with the the people are perceived to be "different" from those who hold political/policy making power in this nation.

People in Mexico want to come to the U.s to have a better life,, high paying jobs, etc.
People in Canada don't want to move to the U.S. ,, not much need to patrol that border.
It's been like this forever but more so in the past 10 or 12 years.

We don't. We have far more problems with illegal immigration at the Mexican border. That's why it is always in the news.
If Hispanics were illegally crossing from Canada, you would see it covered in the news.

There's not too many Canadians wanting to get into the US, whereas there's millions want to come in from Mexico and all points south. Been like that for a looong time.

because Canadians aren't dying, and or killing to get out of their country illegally. I have not problem with people wanting to come to America. I have the problem with those who first do not try to make their country better (power is in the masses) then leave their country and come here illegally.

Probably because the Canadians aren't the ones trying to sneak in illegally to the U.S.
