tell them that you have the shingles... and that you are in terrible pain.

Tell them that you got in your car to go to work but about a mile away from work you had uncontrollable bowel problems...

Tell them that your great aunt anne had a heart attack...

And if all else fails... tell them you have had an allergic reaction to strawberries.

I have a really good one cos everyone in work knows how many problems i have with my car so i tend to stand outside the front door and pretend i have broken down on the motorway just after leaving home- they know the breakdown vehicle wont take me to work then take the car and they know by the time i get picked up and taken back i wont make it to work until that afternoon - i stand outside the front door so the noise of the traffic is heard on the other end!!! works like a dream- dont try it with public transport though cos they can check up on the internet!!!

Otherwise, the usual ones are;
Food poisoning - this way you can have 2 days off if you want and say it was really bad,
Toothache and you need to get to a dentist asap - naturally this takes all day
or 'I really need to go the doctors and i wouldnt like to say what is wrong as you may have just eaten...' then they dont WANT to know what is wrong he he!!

Lol... i love this question. I guess you want the day off and cant think of a good excuse??? Or are you a boss and trying to find out what excuses your employees use??
I have kids and they are a good excuse although i have never used them as once... but once my son was ill and i couldnt go to work cos i had to look after him but it was quite nice to have an unscheduled day off!

My boss very occasionally has what she calls 'duvet days'. When she feels like she just really needs a break. Have to say, she does work incredibly hard though.

Realistically, for all those other people I know damned well don't do more than the bare minimum:

You are so ill you cannot get out of bed to phone your boss.
One of your parents/close family member is seriously ill.
One of the above has had an accident.
You have a job interview (sickies are allowed to be pulled if you don't want your boss to know).

Otherwise, get on with it you lazy sods!

The best ones got to be Diarrhoea and sickness.

No one asks too many questions and you can be off for days.

Especially when you work in a hospital and it is going round, everyine nows its so easy to bugs up when you work there.

well, once, i phoned and said i had sprained my wrist, took a day off, the next day on my way to work, i put an elastic band around my wrist quite tightly, till my hand swelled up and went blue looking, ( only takes a few mins) i then went into work, everyone said AWWW poor you, felt sorry for me. i went to my desk and took the elastic band off, and made a point of covering my "sore" hand

Of course you should never take time off if you're not ill. However, just in case, here are a few I've seen at work:

Women's troubles
Virus
Allergic reaction (to whatever)
Generally unwell
Exhaustion

Good luck!
