Never counted, but it certainly sickens me. It's bizarre that a lot get VERY defensive about it when you suggest reasons not to breed their dog (Even if he IS cute, or "his parents won CRUFFS (sic) last year").

Keep trying to persuade these people to re-think whether they should breed. Keep trying also to get people to think/research which (if any) breed would be suitable for them, rather than going for "the one that is cutest".

If just 1% (and I think it probably is just 1%) take any notice, then it will be worth it.

Keep at 'em!

Breeding should be left to the reputable breeders that are doing this to better the breed and not to make a "quick buck" or "experience the gift of life". The only thing you can do is to educate as many as you can about why they should not breed their beloved pet. Thanks to the wonderful world of deisgner breeds, more people want to breed their pet with a different breed than their own just to see how cute the pups may look. I think that if those who want to breed their pooch should take the time to volunteer with a shelter or rescue and they can see where the pups will most likely end up. I volunteer with a rescue that pulls from an over crowded shelter and there are always litters upon litters of puppies that are dumped off because the "owners" could not find homes for them or they realized how much work it really is to raise pups and don't want to be bothered with it.

I agree there is a severe over-population of dogs. I have four myself. Two purebreds and two mutts and ALL of them are fixed. I could have bred my purebreds but just decided that they are my pets, not my money makers.

get over it.....its not the pups fault......maybe its the owner not looking after the animal properly
