I have 256K cable modem connection, so my download speed should be around 32 KB/s. But, it usually remains at a horrible 17-20 KB/s without a download manager. I have contacted the ISP, but to no avail. Now, I am using DAP Free version, and it keeps the downloads at only about 24-26KB/s. Could you name a download manager that can give better result?? I have tried FlashGet before, but couldn't understand how to operate it at all.

IT Guy :
1 byte (B) = 8 bits (b)
So, 256 Kb = 32 KB (maximum transfer rate)

My download rate used to be as high as 31 KB/s, which is impossible according to your calculations.

Your average download speed, should be around 25.6Kb's, on a 256kb's speed.

Note: Kb's and kb's are 2 different things. it all depends wether the "k" is a capital or not. If it's a capital K, that means it's kiloBYTES, if it's a smaller "k" it is kiloBITS.

Not sure if you know that allready, but just for other readers sake;)

Therefore, if you are on a 256 connection, you should have a 25.6 connection, which is what you are getting with DAP. Not 32 Kb's

There are'nt too many internet accelerators, most of them are almost just "mental" internet boosters. you "think" they are faster. DAP, will give you the best go, or you can go into DOS cmd, and open up xtra ports etc: but that is not meant to be used/allowed/known.

What you're on now, is about the best you'll get.
Been there, seen that, done that;)

FlashGet... no doubt about it.

Download accelerator is good, but eats up a lot of RAM... and has some irritating advertisements on it too!
