Every time I have been at leaving drinks, each person there thinks they ought to buy a drink for the person who is leaving. It is very rare that the leaver needs to buy themself a drink (I may have once or twice, if people aren't keeping up), usually if you get up for a round then people will make you sit down and insist on getting the round for you.
I should mention I am in Scotland and there is definitely an ettiquette to getting a round, people will always get rounds in order and always get everyone a drink (special guest is usually excepted but insisting will be politely accepted). Other countries may not take the same approach and you may find yourself getting a round in. Try to turn up first with a few people and just get them drinks.
PS Aussies will always insist that the special guest does not pay for their drinks!

keep your wallet in your pocket, your boss should stump a couple of rounds. don't feel obligated to buy everyone a drink, especially if you can't afford it. I've been to a few leaving do's and the person leaving rarely buys their own, let alone everyone elses.

Let's see...You are leaving the company so YOU are planning your own going away bash, therefore everyone else should pay for your party? Are you going to ask for going away presents too? How about a nice new car for a constellation prize?
