Well, yeah. What are the motivations for prayer, anyway?

(1) Convince God what He is doing wrong. Ask Him to do something
because you know more than He does. God is all-knowing, but you still
have to tell Him how to do His job.
(2) God likes his *** to be kissed. Otherwise, you'll be mighty
ungrateful. God knows what your sentiments are, He just wants you to
fuggin' bow.
(3) The 700 Club needs money.

Can God read your minds? If so, why waste a finite amount of time and
energy praying to Him?

Prayer is retarded.

Prayer is the elevation of the mind and heart to God:
+ In praise of his glory
+ In petition for some desired good
+ In thanksgiving for a good received
+ In intercession for others before God

Through prayer the Christian experiences a communion with God through Christ in the Church.

"For me, prayer is a surge of the heart; it is a simple look turned toward heaven, it is a cry of recognition and of love, embracing both trial and joy." (St. Thérèse of Lisieux)

"Prayer is the raising of one's mind and heart to God or the requesting of good things from God." (St. John Damascene)

But when we pray, do we speak from the height of our pride and will, or "out of the depths" of a humble and contrite heart? (Psalm 130:1)

He who humbles himself will be exalted; humility is the foundation of prayer. Only when we humbly acknowledge that "we do not know how to pray as we ought," are we ready to receive freely the gift of prayer. "Man is a beggar before God."

With love in Christ.

Prayer = hope , anyday better than despair which is a negative emotion.

Prayer has a therapeutic effect, just like meditation/yoga. And if someones mum is in a coma, would he say, I don't give a damn! Let God kill her if she wants to. I am not gonna pray for her to be all right. Never really liked her anyway.

And who asked you to pay?

God won't give you the carrot on the end of the stick unless you chase it for several thousand miles first.

Yeah, I mean he 'could' ... but he just has a sick sense of humour like that.

It really is silly, but. if it makes someone feel better, no harm in it, unless, of course, they rely on prayer instead of being responsible for their own actions.

Prayer isn't retarded, just the people that think it actually works.
