My daughter was diagnosed w/ ulcerative colitis when she was 5. There are many cause for gi bleeding usually at this age it's something very simple. It could be lactose intolerance, a tear, infection....The diagnosis for my daughter took a long time, because our hospital's machine for testing for lactose intolerance was broken. Although I believed this wasn't the problem, I went along with the doctors. She lost quite a bit of blood over the time period and became anemic. Mother's know and I should have insisted on a colonoscopy sooner. If they give you a diagnosis you are sceptical about and the problem doesn't go away - just follow your instincts. I'm sure everything will be fine.

It very well could be stress related. Sometimes if your body has produced a hemorrhoid and it ruptures, it can cause you to have periodic bleeding in your stool; especially if the area is still healing. Consult your primary care physician if it persists or gets worse. I had a horrible night with a rather disturbing amount that was continuously present. My parents are nurses and they recommended were some OTC stuff, fluids, and rest while it ran its course. Hope this is some help.

if he has been having frequent dihorrea, it may be caused by tears in is anal passage due to the constant bowel movements and wiping of the area- this happened when my toddler was ill. HOWEVER, I did take him to the hospital just in case becasue there was no way of knowing if it was serious or not. Call your doctor or NHS direct at least, none of us can afford to take chances with our children.

There are a few possible causes but he needs to see a doctor.
This symptom should never be ignored.
Make a doctors appoinment now, preferably for him to be seen today.

That he is straining to go and has a slight tear. If it is more than once, I would contact his doctor. If it is bright red, I would definitely call just in case, But in the meantime, up his fiber intake. Benefiber has always worked with my kids. You can't taste it and you can sprinkle or mix it in foods/drinks.

Why would you ask the advice of strangers for something so serious?
Get that kid to a doctor!
