If you want to get your child's portrait taken...would you be interested in a "green screen" studio, where you could insert any background you wanted? How much would you be willing to pay?

Are you talking the same setup as the weatherman uses and just pick a background? That would be a good idea if it could work, but the childrens' clothes would have to fit the screen; IE the weatherman cannot wear certain colors because of that, otherwise he'd be partly invisible.

I'd be willing to pay twenty to thirty dollars for that setting.

I think that sounds like an awesome idea! I have not been to impressed with the backgrounds at department store portrait studios, they are kind of dated and not what I am looking for. I think maybe you are on to something with the "green screen." As far as pricing, I think the more affordable you can make it, the more success you will have. It's really about the quality of the product. If you have a one of a kind product, that produces fantastic pictures you can charge more for it, because you can't get this type of picture anywhere else. It also depends on your targeted demographics. Are you trying to attract the average family or just someone willing to splurge on pictures. I would think most people would be willing to pay a sitting fee if the pictures are reasonably priced, or you can charge no sitting fee and up the price of the pictures. Good Luck, hopefully you will come to a town near me.

Personally, I prefer a classic solid Black background, with excellent lighting. I think all of the others lessen the portraits and make them look "cheap". The only way I would choose anything other than the black would be if I was putting the kids on a Christmas card maybe:) So, no, I wouldn't be willing to pay extra~because I wouldn't use it. But I wish you the Best of Luck if you are wanting to try this new venture!

having done all sorts of picture options over the years, I can honestly say we have tried them all. the important thing here, besides the price, is what overall effect you are looking for with your child.

the most I have paid for a studio session was $100. And the pictures were not significantly different or better than the ones from Sears, Walmart, KMart, etc.

Take some time to see how the photographer interacts with the kiddies. Some photographers have too much of a "next please" mentality and don't take the time to really draw out a child and help them be comfortable.

Also, ask friends what has worked best for their children and how it was accomplished.

hope that helps.

BTW, if you are a photographer interested in opening a shop, remember that parents of handicapped children want nice pictures of their children to. Be willing to get out of your comfort zone to help those families bring home something nice, too.

I think that is a neat idea. Not sure of what I would pay though. It depends. But if you were to use a professional studio it would also cost. So probably around the same price as a portrait studio.

Great idea though.

As a photographer, I only take outdoors pictures. I hate the look of studio photography. To me, taking pictures outdoors tends to feel much more natural and lets the kids relax. The best pictures are the candid, unposed ones. I love going to the beach with kids, and just letting them play.

Not very interested to be honest. I go to a professional studio in my town- not a sears or jc penney type either and we get BEAUTIFUL portraits. They do all sorts of photos.

Plain backgrounds are better, in my opinion. That way, when you are looking at the picture, you can focus on the child instead of the background.
