Recently, I badly sprained my right ankle. Now, a couple days later, I am noticing a large bump forming on my lower right left, a few inches above the ankle, and right along the bone. What could this mean? Did I do more damage than I thought?

It might be a cyst. I would have it checked.

You really ought to go to a Dr. and have it x-rayed. After the sprain your blood might have coagulated in the upper area where that bump is and it could have developed a clot. In which case you would need medication to dissolve it and some bed rest so the clot don't get any bigger or burst. It could be a serious problem. Then again, it might be nothing more than a bone fragment developed from the sprain which will resolve itself in time. It will bother you for a while and be gone. But why take that chance?

Did you go to the doctor when you originally sprained your ankle? Have you had x-rays taken to discount any other damage? It is probably just swelling from the soft tissue damage but if you have not been to the doctor then I advise you to go.

In the meantime, you should be giving your ankle the RICE treatment:

R - rest
I - ice packs to reduce swelling
C - compression bandage
E - elevation

Hope this helps.

You should definately go see the doctor because you may have a blood clot or something else that is dangerous.. Then again, it just may be nothing but the best idea is to get it checked out. Blood clots can travel to the heart and kill you if you are not careful so its something not to mess with. good luck!

You could have damaged your ligaments and they are swelling. Keep your leg up and an ice pack on it until you can get to a doctor.

I would go see your doctor. It could just be a bad bruise or something worse!

Sounds like gangrene has set in. You better get on some antibiotics or you could lose your leg.
