Right now I only have a digital Kodak camera and I can't get it to take very good pictures of objects, even ones that aren't shiny.

Diffusing the light is the key. Use a lightbox, or an external floodlight and cover it with a white sheet (only for a short time!) and dont use the flash on the camera. Use a tripod and the timer feature if you have it to make sure the camera is absolutely steady. You'll be surprised at the results!

It's difficult. Glare from flash and other lights is a big issue.

Try this. Light the object with a lamp that you can "point" at the object. Place a sheet of paper between the light and the object you are photographing to diffuse the light.

DO NOT use the camera flash. That should take care of your trouble.

Another option is to use a layer of facial tissue in front of your flash - again to diffuse the light rather than having a strong single source.
