Hi folks. My kids have been sick for about 2 weeks now which has led to many nights jammed onto the sofa with the little ones.. Well about a week ago I developed that "crick in the neck" and my right upper body is in extreme pain.. jabbing, aching.. ouch.. can anyone give me idea as to if this may be a strain, sprain or what? Also whats the best way to treat it.. thank you. Cant wait to sleep in my bed agian!!! heheh

You could invest in a neck support pillow. I used to sleep in weird positions and suffered neck pain and headaches until I got one of these. It took a little while to get used to, but now I wouldn't be without it. I almost never have a headache any more, and I have never had neck pain. When you have to sleep on the sofa, take the pillow too!

If you strained it you'd know when you did it. Its probably from sleeping on the couch & a bit of neck or shoulder nerve compression.

As for treatment, the first thing I'd do is stretching out your neck, shoulders and arms. That'll really help & you can do that daily. You can find out what kind of stretches from either from a physio or good & knowledgable personal trainer at a gym, or possibly related sites.

I'm not a big fan of chiros especially for necks though some swear by them. Imo, there's alot of delicate nerves in the neck/spine area that you just don't want to mess with.

On top of daily stretching ( and sleeping in a bed), I think a good Reg. Massage therapist (RMT) is a better and safer route to go, and might provide the relief you're looking for. One who does deep tissue massage might be a good start for you, and less jarring than a chiro.

I get this frequently. See a chiropractor. He'll have you feeling great in no time!
