For the first year and years to come so I have a rough estimate for my future cat

Depends on what cat you get- my siamese cats were 550 each. If you get a female, expect about $200 for spaying. Initial check up plus required vaccines, $100. Cat box, toys, bowls: $75. Each year's checkup and vaccines:$100.

I feed my cats a raw meat and bone diet because they are strictly carnivores and cannot process the carboydrates in commercial cat foods properly. This comes to about $40 a month in food. The meat grinder I have is a Tasin TS 108 electric grinder. That is $185. Add $20 a month in cat litter.

I don't know if there are any great pet adoption services in your area.
In NY we have NorthShore Animal League which is by far the best. They never put down any animal and care for very sick animals as well for their lifetime.
I adopted 2 cats from there and they don 't charge for the cats, they only have an adoption fee which was about $100 each.
You have to have food, litterbox, litter, and a carrier ready for the animal.
Also depends what food you buy. Most vets recomend dry food because it's excellent for the cat's teeth. Get a great brand such as Iams or Science Diet.
As a rough estimate I would say I spent close to $500 for the first year of my cat, however, NorthShore provides alot of vaccinations for free so that cut out alot of $.
After your cat is vaccinated I don't think it will cost more than $300 as long as your cat is healthy and you don't need any additional vet care besides yearly vacs.
Hope this helped.
Good luck with your new friend!

Well, go to the pound or a rescue site and the kitty(it is kitten season!) will be up to date on shots and will cost about $35. A vet visit twice a year will be $65 a pop. Flea stuff will be about $25 a year. She will also need a collar, tag, litter box say $25. Food and litter, $10 a week. So, about $700 in the first year and abit less after that. Have fun.

Hi there,

I have a senior cat whcih was bequeather to me so I can not comment on things like the cost for neutering. I know female cats are more expensive to fix than male cats. But as to the actual cost best bet is to contact your local vet, vet hospital or human society and ask them the costs.

Besides that, I pay between $25-$35 for a huge bag of dry food (my cat has was not rasied on wet food and she does not like it; wet food is far more expensive than dry). I try to buy better quality brands of food so I know I pay more; however, the huge bag of food lasts me months since she only gets 3/4 cup of food and it's not daily (I leave food out and she eats when hungry; when her dish is low I add more). Litter prices vary drastically depending on the brand. I choose the clumpping style as I hate throwing plastic bags into the garbage constantly. And it's much easier to scoop and flush. The stuff I buy costs me I think $15 for a large bag. It lasts me a few months. With the scoop and flush brand I find I do not need to change the litter as often so I don't need to keep refilling the pan. Cat treats. Now that's where they get ya! I try not to spoil her too much but hey, who am I kidding! Her treats are $5 per small bag. At one point I was up to $20.00 a week in cat treats but I really cut it back. I'd say I'm about $10.00 a month now instead of $100! No, I don't buy Pounce or other more common treats. I go to my local pet store and try to buy more "healthy" snacks. I figure, if I'm gonna spoil her, I might as well make sure I don't make her fat. My parents did that to their last cat and he got diabeties and went into liver failure so I'm trying not to follow in their foot steps!

Vaccinations I don't know about. Sorry. I know she's due but I have to check. Last time she visited the vet for a check up I am not sure if she received any shots then or not. I know vet bills are not cheap but I'm not sure how standardized the prices are. Fees may vary according to each doctor or clinic. You could always call around and ask how much initial shots would cost. Also, I am very fortuante where I live because the co-op brings in a vet once a month or so for vaccinations and check-ups and I know the fees are much less than if I were to go see her as a private customer.

Over all, for me, owning a cat is relatively inexpensive; I spend more on food eating for a week than I do spend on her for the month. Vet bills are always expensive but it's not like I take her to one that often. Once the initial shots and the cost to spay or neuter has been taken care of, the rest is very affordable.

Cheers.

Depends on where you get it from and what your intentions for the cat are.
My first cat, at the age of 30, cost $30 to adopt from the pet shelter. And then you have to promise to get it fixed, that price varies depending on the vet (get a good vet b/c bad vets can kill your pet.) And you have to get it vaccinated for rabies. Then if you want to get a cat for show then you are talking about primping tools and driving back and forth, or flying, to the shows. And the supplies. Then food is an issue. I have one cat that refuses to eat anything but name brand food. If you put store brand food in front of her, she will go hungry than eat it. Plus she will not eat wet food or table food. Then you gotta take into account of whether it will be an inside cat or outside.

please don't start the cat out on Fancy Feast-because I think they put something in that food to make them want it more and more, like nicotine in a cigarette. I inhereited my anut and uncles two huge cats after they both died- and these cats will put you in the poor house. They were eating 14 cans a day the whole time they lived with my aunt and uncle- I had to cut those suckers back. They are 20 -years old-out-door cats, spayed and they eat only cooked turkey-I buy like 14 at Thanksgiving and if I can get that manymore at Christmas I do and they love raw fish, and just a few spcific things. I thought when I got them they would get hungry enough they would eat normal cat food -but they literally would have starved their selfs too death- I asked the vet and he said yeh !if they are started on one kind like she did, they would starve theri self to death. He said they shouldn't go any more than 3 days with out food because a cats body breaks down quicker than other animals-Remember you'll be in for the long -haul they live for ever if in a protective environment. Mine will be here until Jesus comes back. Here you can adopt one for $50 and that comes with shots and everything. But make sure they'll eat anything!! unless you like pricey picky pussys!

If you choose an intellectually-challenged cat... it can cost you plenty. My friend's retarded kitten chased a moth over the edge of her 2nd floor balcony a while back. It needed a few operations, and had to stay at the Vet's rooms for almost two weeks.

It cost her a couple of thousand... she had to loan money from her parents to pay the bills.
