My JR is crossed with a Scottie dog. She is nearly 8 months old now. For the last two days she has become really clingy and two nights ago she got scared by a cat fight in the garden and crept into my bed (first time ever). This morning I found her sleeping in the spare room. She normally sleeps quite happily in the living room downstairs. She has a dog flap so she can go in and out as she pleases.

Could she be coming into season?

Hello there i am a vet nurse so will try to help. We say that dogs seasons can normally happen anywhere from 6months to 12 months normally the larger breeds go towards the 12 months. Hormone changes can effect behaviour.
Seasons : 7 days of bloody discharge (lovelly!!) but 7 days after is straw colour and this is the most fertile time, It may be worth keeping her on a lead as male dogs do sense a ***** in season. Really puppies are too young for litters.
If you are not thinking about breeding her then i would deffinately suggest spaying her after her season but contact your vet to get her examined to work out dates of mid cycles as this is the best time to spay. They come into season roughly twice a year. Hope this helps

Yes she could well be coming into season in the next few weeks. B1tches behaviour quite often changes just before they come into season. Do not let her out unattended when she does come into season if there is the slightest chance that a male dog could get to her.

Female dogs can come into season anywhere for 6 months to 18 months of age. There is also a "second fear" stage most young dogs go through. To be safe,go ahead and schedule your pup for spaying asap.

We have a jack russel who is 9 months old and hasn't had her 1st season yet. Our vet told us that smaller dogs usually have their 1st one between 10 and 12 months.
