In Australia it isnt hot in September, its quite cool actually and the ski resorts are still open! In WA stirling Range National Park is just beautiful and in victoria and New South Wales there are hundreds of beautiful mountains like the Kosciuszko national park, which has Australias highest peak at 2228m ASL! (if you didnt notice, i am obsessed with mountains LOL) Tasmania is beautiful too although i have never been there but i suggest you do there are loads of National Parks there!
Some websites for National parks
www.naturebase.net ( western australias national parks)
http://www.parkweb.vic.gov.au/ (victoria)
http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/ (NSW)
http://www.nt.gov.au/nreta/parks/ (northern Territory)
http://www.parks.tas.gov.au/ (tasmania)
http://www.epa.qld.gov.au/parks_and_forests/ (Queensland)

Don't know of any websites, but I live in New Zealand and have been to Australia a few times. In Australia I recommend going to The Grampians and doing the Nervous Steps. Also, in NSW there are The Blue Mountains which are pretty amazing. There are some pretty amazing walks - some hard, some easy. It also has the world's steepest railway line which is actually pretty scary!!! In New Zealand, I would recommend anywhere down the West Coast of the South Island. The glaciers are pretty awesome if you go in the winter. Enjoy your trip! By the way, don't make the same mistake I did - don't assume that just because New Zealand is smaller than Australia that there is less to do! Have fun :)

Have just come back from Western Australia and toured most of the coast there, which is absolutely fantastic. We visited some of their national parks there and I would recommend you have decent walking shoes as the earth is absolutely baking hot, plenty of mossie spray, a sun hat, plenty of water and of course your camera. Its all well worth the effort as you see so many amazing sights. Have a fab holiday.
